We arrived in Lexington, Virginia in the late afternoon yesterday and were able to explore a little bit of the campus of Washington and Lee University. Everything was beautiful from the first glimpse. The red brick and white pillars in front of the purple mountains rolling for miles and miles made for a classic Americana image. This morning we arrived back on campus to tour the law school and meet with an Admissions counselor. We learned so much about the school and what makes Lexington an interesting area to live in. One of the smallest law school programs in the country, W&L is able to boast a 9.5:1 faculty-to-student ratio, which is quite impressive. Also unique to W&L Law is its student run Honor Code system, which is highly respected by every student and faculty member on campus.  For example, each student is assigned their own space in the library, and you can do with it as you please; as you can see in the bottom left photo above, some students leave plenty of personal belongings in this space and it is accepted that nothing will be touched. The same honor policy stands for getting food at the cafeteria and taking exams and writing papers. It is a very morally upstanding community with a policy that is very respectable. After we finished our tour, we met (for almost an hour!) with the Dean of Admissions, who talked us through the process of applying to W&L, what they look for in a strong candidate, what makes W&L different, and such things. It was an incredibly informative meeting, and left us with a great taste in our mouths from the Washington and Lee College of Law.

FUN FACTS:

- The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) also calls Lexington home.
- The population of Lexington is 7,046, not much less than that of Greenville.
- Each student is required to participate in a clinic or externship during their 3rd year.
- The Dean of W&L is German.
